Home made electrolyte mix

If you have compromised adrenals, you can be especially sensitive to electrolyte loss, with your body unable to hold onto important electrolytes. Two of the main adrenal hormones, cortisol and aldosterone, cause sodium retention and people with adrenal fatigue often need to replace their levels of electrolytes every day. Adrenal fatigued people usually have low blood pressure due to a lack of sodium, so the regular intake of salt is not a problem from a blood pressure perspective (sodium retention usually causes high blood pressure).

Here is the recipe to make your own electrolyte mix:

2 liters/quarts of water

1 teaspoon sea salt (good quality)

1 teaspoon Epsom salts (BP/USP quality e.g. from your pharmacist/drug store)

1 teaspoon sodium bicarbonate (baking soda, BP/USP quality e.g. from any pharmacist/drug store)

1/8 – 1/4 teaspoon potassium chloride (salt substitute, most health shops carry this)

Adding a little fruit juice or sugar helps a lot with absorption (although those with candida may prefer not to add this).

Drink throughout the day.
Use especially when it is hot or when you go for sauna’s, as you will lose a lot of electrolytes while sweating.
